SDCC 2012: Got Your Member ID Yet?

6 more months to SDCC 2012!

Those who have pre-registered at last year's SDCC should have already received their barcoded electronic ticket. They are basically just set to get their butts to San Diego during Comic-Con week!

For those who want to purchase a SDCC pass when tickets are available online later, the Special Red Dot Diva Reminder Service highlights that they will need to secure a Member ID first.

This new procedure also applied to those who have attended SDCC previously as press, professionals or trade professionals.

So it's crucial that you head to this page for your Member ID if you intend to be at SDCC this year. You'll have to get the ID before February 28!

Three Squee-worthy Movie Trailers: #3 - Prometheus

Lots of gore and splatters of goo.

That's what Red Dot Diva remembers most from Ridley Scott's "Alien" movie series.

The first "Alien" movie was released when Red Dot Diva was only a diva-in-training and the part she remembered most was that classic, bloody chest-burster scene. Ewweggh.

And that one scene with the decapitated gurgling android Ash wasn't that pretty either. Double ewweggh.

As she got older (and more morbid), Red Dot Diva got over the gruesomeness of those key scenes and began to appreciate Ridley Scott's work in the "Alien" movie series more. The suspense and the FX employed at the time were pretty impressive. So was the grosteque biomechanical-styled art and designs of Swedish artist H.R. Giger used in the series. The Alien Queen's physical appearance was scary but elegant at the same time - the kind of beautiful monster one would love to run away from.

Moreover, Red Dot Diva liked the fact that the "Alien" series was feministic in nature. It bore down to a showdown between the tough proactive female space warrior Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and the more primal and protective Alien Queen.

Three Squee-worthy Movie Trailers: #2 - "The Hobbit"

*gasp* Has it been already been 10 years since the first LOTR movie - "The Fellowship of the Ring" - was released??

Time seems to pass too fast sometimes!

The LOTR trilogy movies hold a special place in Red Dot Diva's heart because it was the first time, a fantasy movie actually looked like a fantasy story from the books. All thanks to Peter Jackson and his team's shared vision and the wonderful FX work by WETA.

She also made many good friends through the LOTR fandom. Some have remained loosely in touch, while others were always close by, especially during her times of need. The Fellowship of the Ring became a real fellowship of sorts in Red Dot Diva's own not-so-Middle Earth.

"THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY"
The movie adaptation for "The Hobbit" had so many stops and starts. In early 2010, Peter Jackson finally took up the role as director for "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" after Guillermo del Toro left because of production delays. Fans breathed a sigh of relief when work for the prequel began to take shape and production kicked-off in New Zealand back in March 2011. The avid LOTR fandom was all abuzz with excitement again!

Three Squee-worthy Movie Trailers: #1 - "The Dark Knight Rises"

Is there a Geek Fairy Godperson somewhere in an alterna-universe?

There must be.

As part of year 2011's wrap-up, a festive package of new movie trailers were released online, one after the other.

Red Dot Diva's heart pounded the hardest for these three movie trailers - "The Dark Knight Rises", "The Hobbit" and "Prometheus". She unbashedly admits that she squee-ed when she watched the trailers for the first time last year. And she squee-ed a few more times when she watched them again.

The fact that it is now 2012 doesn't make these trailers less exciting. AHHHhh!

"THE DARK KNIGHT RISES"
Watching this long-awaited trailer was bittersweet was Red Dot Diva. On one hand, she was excited to see what the latest Batman movie would be like. On the other hand, the fact that this will be Chris Nolan's and Christian Bale's last take on the moody Caped Crusader made Red Dot Diva feel quite wistful.

Bent-Con 2011: Screenwriter Jane Espenson Talks About "Buffy" Comics, "Husbands" and "Once Upon A Time"

Thanks to the iconic TV series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", Red Dot Diva was introduced to the talented writing skills of Jane Espenson.

She considers it a fortune to have met Jane briefly before at UK Buffy cons held in the early 2000's. Even after "Buffy" and spin-off series "Angel" were both cancelled, Red Dot Diva continued to follow Jane's writing career.

Jane Espenson is a prolific TV screenwriter/ producer and her long and amazing list of works includes scripts for "Battlestar Galactica", "The O.C.", "Firefly", "Gilmore Girls", "Jake In Progress" (Yes peeps! That's the short-lived series that starred the geekily-adorable and super-nice celebrity hunk Chris Gorham, who is now a regular in "Covert Affairs"), "Dollhouse", "Caprica" and recently, for HBO's wildly popular "Game of Thrones", "Torchwood" and ABC's "Once Upon A Time".

One thing Red Dot Diva has always wished, was to be able to interview Jane Espenson one day for the RDD blog. Even though, this has not yet come true to Red Dot Diva personally, she was glad that Twitter friend @TheReal_Rebel was able to catch Jane Espenson at an LGBT-centric convention in Los Angeles recently.

Here is @TheReal_Rebel's interview with Jane Espenson when she met the writer at Bent-Con 2011:
